Project summary
Flash It! turns links, PDFs, books and lecture videos into flashcards. We designed and built the iOS app, a Share Extension, on-device video transcription and a cloud generation API. Learners can import material, generate a deck and study in one place, with spaced repetition, progress tracking and rewards built in.

The challenge
Starting point
Flash It! wanted to make flashcards a more accessible part of everyday learning. Creating cards by hand took time, while using a generic AI chat meant copying the output into another tool.
The goal was to bring importing, card generation and study into one experience, using AI to reduce the work needed to get started.

Strategy & design approach
Analyse
The brief centred on a simple learning journey: capture source material, turn it into a useful deck and start studying. The main points of friction were manual card writing and moving between separate tools. This shaped the decision to keep capture, generation and revision within one app.

Strategise
We made importing flexible, with support for links, PDFs, books, video, audio and sharing directly from Safari. A bold visual style, with strong outlines and a bright yellow accent, gave the app a playful character.
The study interaction stayed simple: flip a card, then swipe to record whether the answer was correct. An SM-2-style spaced-repetition schedule determines when cards return. We also defined the subscription model early: three free generations, followed by a monthly or annual Pro plan.

Build & optimise
We built and released a native iOS app, supported by a marketing website at flashit.cc. The app combines source importing, AI flashcard generation, a formatted reader with read-aloud, spaced-repetition study, progress tracking and Pro subscriptions.
A Share Extension lets learners send material into the app from Safari, while on-device video transcription and a cloud API support the generation workflow.

Results & outcomes
Flash It! went from concept to App Store submission in under a week. The released app brings importing, flashcard generation and study into one experience, with progress tracking and subscriptions included.
Previously, learners had to create cards manually, or generate them in an AI chat and copy the output into a separate study tool. Now they import a source, generate a deck and study within the same app.
